Boston Camp - Nunavut - "As The Drill Turns"

Okay, So I've been at Boston Camp for about 3 weeks now the First 2 weeks Jessa was here. We had a great time going out for walks to the Inukchuk and down to the Lake...Jessa even found a Rock Gym for doing step ups.... I unfortunately didn't see any Northern Lights yet but perhaps I'll still see some......Check out the Bear that greeted us at the airport in Yellowknife. We flew in on a tiny plane which I'm sure I could reach across. This plane actually couldn't get in today because of fog so I am stranded here for an extra day..... In the pictures you can see Jessa on the plane and a view from my seat up to the front... Behind me was the cargo. It was very cold and loud... we had to wear earplugs and there was no inflight movie or lunch.... In this next picture you can see the Lake... It's called Spider Lake.... and we are well within the Arctic Circle..... The Lake froze completely a couple of days ago.... I have some pics of the frozen lake... And Jessa, we (Maureen, Bella, and I) got around to that point you wanted to hike to after the lake froze we walked across the narrow part....

The Bear.......

Okay so we've got someone new in Camp... it's a 2 year old black bear.... His name is Bernard and he likes garbage... the Game Warden has come and put a trap in I'll get a picture of it to post with this....(eventually).... I've gotten a look at him twice... fortunately neither time was at 5 am when I go down to the kitchen to make breaky...... anyways... he showed up yesterday just before Lunch and was chased away by Mike (some important management type) throwing rocks and hollaring "get out of here you stupid bear" Not certain if this was part of his training but he's a natual with the bear.... Later at Dinner time Bernard came back.... now this time the french guys up here deceided to take care of Bernard.... they used a truck.... Bernard seem to be not too afraid of trucks... and french guys seem to be not to afraid of Bears..... anyways, I am now armed with an air horn, Bear spray and a radio as I walk to the kitchen in the morning.... Well I'll updaye everyone as to when bernard gets caught he has a tasty mix of pineapple, sardines and Molasses as bait in the cage so it won't be to long.... he just needs to find the door... Walk around the trap Bernard... stupid bear..... talk to everyone soon.....

Yes Lisa I will have people put the spoon where the "Sun don't shine" if some one shakes a spoon at me again... and I will try to be home before the end of the year Meghan so let Mom know... Right now I am in the Yukon just outside of a little place called Mayo... it's a great group of people and the it's really pretty up here I have to get some pictures taken with the digital camera and I will post them as well as a few from the Quebec Camp as soon as I can.... The ADVENTURE begins.....

Airport in Iqualuit Okay so I get on a plane on the 1st of August..... I fly to Montreal..... (ohhh I forgot to say the car in front of my cab hit a pedestrian.... great start right..... Okay so I arrive in Montreal.... I stay at the Comfort Inn I don't recommend it if you looking for a luxury hotel for holiday but it was alright (no hot water though). So then I head to the airport to Fly to Wakeham Bay.... right..... So the plane is broken.... after loading and unloading us and about 3 hours late we are on our way...to Iqaluit....Baffin Island.....totally skipping over where I was heading... anyways... the plane breaks again in Iquluit... So I along with a lot of other people spend the night there...... Fellow Stranded Travellers The next Day I finally make it to Wakeham... where I am going to meet ( a guy with a ponytail and a helicopter).... yeah anyways he shows up..... thank goodness.... But not before I feel like I've crashed a local family reunion... I was the only white person... strange feeling... So after a local asks me "why are you here?" I finally take my first trip in the helicopter.....terrified I was... still am... the tip that you won't feel it if it hits you doesn't really ease my fears..... So I arrive at Guindeau Lake... I am only guessing at the spelling here.... and well this guy Matt says "We don't know what we're going to do with you?" What I've only traveled 3 days to get here???? Belanger Camp So they send me the next day to Belanger....another camp... really nice well established and great Bathrooms... which to most may seem basic... trust me a good Bathroom is a luxury.......these ones had handy foot levers and plastic bags rather than water.... a real modern convenience compared to the other camp... at any rate everyone was nice and I saw lots of caribou... after about 4 days I am sent to the other camp again... another trip in the helicopter... okay so at the other camp... it's a bit more rustic as it's a new camp.... but the people are still nice... then I meet the regular cook and things go down hill from there...not a nice guy, anyways now I am back in Vancouver and I am heading to Whitehorse on Friday.... so I will further update as I can... I need to buy a laptop computer... someday soon..... The Odd habit people have to collect bones in the north?
